Microorganisms living in our mouth dissolve mineral structures due to the acidic nature of their waste. Demineralization increases with the increase in microorganisms due to the fact that food residues remain on a certain surface of the tooth (in the same place). As demineralization increases, the roughness or pits (cavities) formed on the tooth surface due to dissolution allow microorganisms to nest more easily, which causes decay to progress even faster.
